UOB Logo

To meet the growing demand for AI and GenAI expertise in the financial sector, UOB has partnered with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) to launch the AI and Data Analytics Centre of Excellence (AIDA CoE).

UOB plans to recruit 100 participants over three years, deploying them into roles such as AI/ML engineers, data engineers, and data scientists. In the first year, participants receive centralised training via the Data Management Office and NUS, while the second year offers practical exposure in UOB’s various business divisions.

One of the beneficiaries of this initiative is Ashton Low who is an AI and Data Analytics Associate at UOB. He signed up as it was a graduate tech program in a bank which he was interested in joining, and it was primarily focused on AI and Data Science which was his field of study. Today, Ashton applies AI and GenAI to reimagine banking processes, such as automating ESG data extraction to support the bank’s green initiatives. By leveraging GenAI to streamline workflows and uncover insights, he helps drive efficiency and deliver greater value to stakeholders.

IBF supports the partnership by providing funding, industry insights, and guidance on training programmes to ensure the curriculum aligns with industry standards and prepares the employees for the demands of an AI-driven financial sector.

By integrating early exposure to AI, rigorous training, and seamless deployment into practical roles, UOB is building a sustainable pipeline of talent that not only meets its own talent needs but also contributes to strengthening Singapore’s position as a centre for AI expertise.
