Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming how banks operate, and OCBC is preparing its workforce to harness this technology in meaningful, practical ways. Beyond simply adopting tools, the bank is equipping employees with the skills and confidence to use AI responsibly, building a culture of adaptability and innovation.

Thousands of OCBC employees have upskilled through targeted programmes in areas such as AI and GenAI. These initiatives go beyond technical training to include ethical considerations and risk awareness, ensuring staff can deploy AI effectively and responsibly in their day-to-day roles.

One of the most impactful applications can be seen at Bank of Singapore, OCBC’s private banking subsidiary. Relationship Managers (RMs) have adopted a GenAI tool to help draft Source of Wealth (SoW) reports for private banking clients, a critical part of client onboarding. The tool analyses corroborative evidence—such as business and employment records or financial statements—to produce a comprehensive first draft in just one hour, compared to 10 days previously. This allows for faster onboarding of new clients, creating an improved customer experience whilst enhancing RMs’ capacity to better serve their existing clients and pursue new client leads.

By embedding AI literacy and encouraging hands-on use, OCBC is enabling employees to reimagine their work with GenAI—whether through automation, faster information retrieval, or compliance transformation. The result is a workforce that is not only ready for the future of banking, but actively shaping it.
