A career DBS banker, Hong joined DBS in 1975 and has since held various senior positions during his tenure. He was Senior Vice President of Corporate Banking in 1990, and Executive Vice President and Head of DBS Corporate Banking in 1996.  He was also responsible for the Bank’s Credit Administration and Bills and Remittances departments. Previously the Managing Director and Head of the Enterprise Credit Group, he is the current Managing Director and Head of IBG Credit (Singapore).

As Head of Corporate Banking, Hong took part in various corporate lending and project financing in Singapore.  Hong was the bank’s nominee director on the boards of companies where the Bank held equity stake including Intraco Ltd, Jurong Engineering Ltd, Fujitec Singapore Corporation Ltd, Orix Leasing Singapore Ltd, Singapore Polymer Corporation Pte Ltd and Yamaha Music Asia Pte Ltd. 

In 2000, Hong was appointed Head of Enterprise Banking to spearhead the Bank’s thrust into SME Banking.  As Chairman of DBS Finance Ltd and DBS Factors Ltd, as well as concurrent Head of Enterprise Banking, Hong integrated these subsidiaries into Enterprise Banking Group. Hong became the head of the Enterprise Credit Group in 2003.

Hong was conferred the IBF Fellow award in 2016 by the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF). The IBF Fellow title recognises industry veterans who exemplify thought leadership and commitment to industry development.

Hong holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Singapore.
