Said has been in shipping and insurance since the 1980s having started his career as a navigating/deck officer before he went on to adjusting/surveying for the shipping and insurance industries. He went on to be an in-house marine consultant and risk manager for AIG. He joined Lloyds of London Asia platform in 2006 and is now the Regional Head of Cargo with Beazley Pte Ltd responsible for building up a sustainable and profitable book of cargo underwriting in Singapore and the Asia Pacific.

He is an active profile speaker for the industry engaging with students and key stakeholders to promote General Insurance as a viable career option. He has been involved with GIA internship programs since its inception and mentored many who has graduated and now holding respectable positions in the insurance industry both in claims, underwriting and risk management. He also lectures at Singapore College of Insurance. Said does take on speaking engagements in forum and seminars on insurance and risk management in Singapore and beyond.

Said was conferred the IBF Fellow award in 2016 by the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF). The IBF Fellow title recognises industry veterans who exemplify thought leadership and commitment to industry development.

He holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from La Trobe University in Melbourne, a Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer Class 3) issued by Marine Department (now MPA) Singapore, a Diploma in Nautical Studies from Singapore Polytechnic and a Diploma in Marine Surveying (Distinction) by International Institute of Marine Surveyors in conjunction with Greenwich University and National Sea Training Centre UK. Said is a Singaporean and is married with three boys.
