Risk Management

"Believe in your purpose, have the courage to ask difficult questions, the independence of mind to analyse and the resilience to persevere.

Ms Agnes Koh was appointed Chief Risk Officer of Singapore Exchange from January 2014 following various roles within the risk management unit. She is responsible for championing and leading enterprise risk management activities across the organisation, formulating the risk framework and assessments for new products and business strategies, and managing the clearing risk of SGX's securities and derivatives clearing houses.

Agnes has been instrumental in developing SGX's risk management processes to preserve the safety, efficiency and operational resilience of SGX's trading and clearing facilities. Under her stewardship, SGX successfully navigated the Lehman and MF Global crisis and earned global recognition for its risk management and clearing capabilities.

Agnes contributed to the 2006 launch of Asia's first over-the-counter (OTC) Central Counterparty (CCP) or clearing house for commodities derivatives, providing market participants with a venue to reduce bilateral counterparty risk, improve capital efficiency and enabling market liquidity at a critical point in the growth of the commodities market in Asia.  The platform was further expanded in 2010 to become the first Asian CCP to offer the clearing of OTC financial derivatives in response to the 2009 G20 mandate to reduce systemic risk.   SGX is the first and only CCP in the region to be fully approved by U.S. regulators as a Derivatives Clearing Organisation and a Foreign Board of Trade, and is recognised by European Union regulators for both securities and derivatives clearing. In 2015, SGX was awarded Derivatives Exchange of the Year by Asia Risk, Futures and Options World and Global Capital as well as Central Counterparty (CCP) of the Year by Asia Risk. In 2016, SGX was named Exchange of the Year at the global Energy Risk Awards.

Prior to joining SGX, Agnes had more than 11 years' experience managing the foreign reserves of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and was also an auditor with a public accountancy firm.

Agnes is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. She holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) from National University of Singapore.  Agnes was conferred the IBF Distinguished Fellow award in 2016. The IBF Distinguished Fellow is a significant role model who serves as a beacon of excellence for the financial industry.
