A K Cher has 36 years of working experience in general insurance operations in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong of which 28 years are involved in chief financial controllership and general management, including successful implementation of company integration processes and IT projects as well as turning around company operating performance.

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. (TMiS), a general insurance Company licenced by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and he also holds the Managing Director (MD) role in the Company's Board of directors. In addition to being a CEO and MD, Mr Cher chairs the Management Committee, Business Development Committee, Claim and Reserving Committee, Information Technology Steering Committee, and is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr Cher is fully in-charge and responsible of the operation, strategic and business development and performance of TMiS and its Branch office in Brunei.

He was also SG50 Celebration Committee Chairman and a member of the Financial Sector Tripartite Committee.

During his terms as GIA President, he led the GIA through sector wide initiatives such as:

• Implemented GIA Fraud Management System for Motor and Travel Insurance

• GIA 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Celebrations

• Launched Industry Performance Statistics Reporting system to simplify statistics reporting

• Industry-wide SG50 Celebrations – Raised over S$600,000 for charity together with the Life Insurance Association and Singapore Reinsurers' Association

• Revision of General Insurance Agents Registration Regulations to expand GIA Agents' Registration Board's role to conduct audit of agents, to ensure minimum standards are met

• Initiated Special Investigation Units (SIUs) to combat insurance fraud

• Set up insurance fraud public hotline

• Introduced BOLA Centralised Online System to improve efficiency
