Biography

Sam Tan is currently the Senior Vice President of Claims Service, MSIG Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

He started his career in the general insurance industry after leaving the Singapore Police Force in the early 1990s by first joining NTUC Income. Thereafter, he joined AIG and stayed there till 2014 before he joined MSIG till now. He has 27 years of working experience in the general insurance industry.

During Sam's tenure with MSIG, the latter has received 3 claims related awards namely "Insurer Claims Team of the Year 2016 - Insurance Post Claims Awards Asia-Pacific", "Claims Initiative of the Year - Insurance Asia Awards 2018 (Digital Claims Payment)" and "Claims Initiative of the Year - Insurance Asia Awards 2020 (Industry-first Online Video Interaction Motor Survey)".

Sam has been actively involved in contributing to the insurance industry through the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA)'s activities since 2003. He was appointed as the GIA Motor Convenor in 2013 and has continued as the Deputy Motor Convenor till today. He has been actively engaged in various initiatives, committees and workgroups that promote and advance the common interests of GIA members and the general insurance industry.

In addition, he was a Special Risks Pool committee member from 2005 till 2018. He is currently the Deputy Chairman of Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) and has been its council member since 2009. Sam has also been serving as a member of the Inquiry Panel of the Singapore Law Society since 2012.

Sam graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Degree in Business Administration. He is also a Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI, USA) with Distinction.
