Biography

Being in the financial industry for close to twenty years, Carlos recognises that the client is at the heart of everything that we do in financial advisory. Inspired by a desire to return to the fundamentals, Carlos knew that he has to take the lead to genuinely help, guide and nurture people on their path to financial wellbeing.

Through a very close-knit working relationship with various government agencies like Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY), People's Association (PA), Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) and many more, Carlos is able to contribute and give back to the society through financial literacy programmes and industry-focused initiatives.

In 2015-2016, Carlos participated as a team leader in the nationwide pro-bono IFPAS-MediShield Life consultation which helped over 800 residents across Singapore understand the national health scheme.

In support of the SG Youth Action Plan, Carlos together with the IFPAS team, partnered with The Smart Local, National Youth Council and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth in 2019 to empower youths to take charge of their financial well-being. This partnership presented financial education curriculum for the youth on navigating financial stressors in various life stages in relatable and bite-sized content.

At the course of Covid-19 pandemic, Carlos led the association and its team in a series of activities that promote continuous upskilling and professional development of advisers. This includes complimentary workshops conducted by industry experts, dialogue sessions with ministers, and partnership with educational institutions such as Singapore University of Social Sciences to aid our members in transitioning to digital way of communicating to clients and Kaplan Professional Australia to develop programmes that is in line with the MAS' Financial Industry Roadmap.

At present, IFPAS' team remains in close collaboration with Ministry of Health in getting financial practitioners to weave in explanations of CareShield Life in the course of providing financial advice/financial planning services.

As the current leader of IFPAS, Carlos drives the association in (1) raising the image of the profession, (2) building towards national representation of industry practitioners and (3) maintaining as an integral part in shaping the future of our industry.

Carlos holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner (FChFP) designations.
