Biography

Mr Eric Tham is the Managing Director and Head of Group Commercial Banking in United Overseas Bank Limited, the dominant market player in the SME business in Singapore.

With over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, Mr Tham currently oversees and drives Commerical Banking regionally. He is responsible for spearheading the Banks' expansion in the medium enterprise business in Singapore as well as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and Myanmar. In addition, Mr Tham has been instrumental in the introduction of new and innovative products for medium enterprises, and in formulating and implementing strategic initiatives to maintain and reinforce UOB's market leader position for this segment of customers.

Mr Tham is also a member of the Singapore Youth Award Selection Board (Entrepreneurship). The SYA is the highest youth accolade in Singapore that honours youths who have significantly contributed to the society and achieved excellence in their respective fields. As a member of the selection board, Mr Tham is responsible to shortlist and recommend candidates to the SYA Panel for their final decision on award recipients.

Mr Tham graduated from the University of Singapore with a Business degree, and obtained his MBA (Accounting) from Nanyang Technological University. He is also involved in the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute; a private initiative involving UOB, Singapore Management University (SMU) and the community of local enterprises to foster entrepreneurship in Singapore.
