Purpose of Programme |
This course extends on the basic concepts of Wealth Planning to include international tax concepts for wealth planners, family offices and business succession. HNWIs have investment and assets across multiple locations and jurisdictions globally and have generational transfer needs. Having an international perspective on wealth planning together with a good understanding of family office and business succession is an important element of providing a holistic wealth management advice to clients.
Students will learn how to engage clients and their families to help them attain their long term objectives of wealth preservation, inter-generational wealth transfer and succession planning.
Wealth Planning Topics include:
1. Wealth planning tools that help uncover a client’s succession, asset protection and philanthropic needs and other financial needs and goals
2. Trust and estate planning common and complex structures
3. International tax concepts for wealth planners
4. Family business governance and inter-generational wealth transfer and challenges clients face in making crucial and difficult decisions
Business Succession Topics include:
1. Understanding the multinational nature of the family
2. Ownership and family governance policies
3. Informing the younger generation regarding family wealth
4. Informal & formal family constitution
5. Leadership & decision making process
6. Dispute resolution
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify complex wealth and estate planning objectives of HNW clients such as:
a. Asset preservation/protection
b. Business transfer
c. Ownership and control
d. Mobility planning
e. Philanthropy
f. Succession planning and intergenerational wealth transfer
2. Recognise how clients’ preferences, values and cultural beliefs may impact wealth planning solutions
3. Identify any special needs of certain client segments (eg minors, incapacitated dependents), particularly those unable to conduct and own assets
4. Understand how to work with specialists and leverage wealth planning solutions to provide holistic approaches to the needs of HNW clients
5. Identify the key tools and regulatory considerations in designing wealth planning solutions
6. Know how to uncover latent wealth planning needs of HNW clients as well as identify unique client circumstances that are relevant to these needs
7. Understand common limitations and risks associated with creating and maintaining of the wealth planning structure
8. Understand business continuity challenges of family firms and be able to understand how family offices are set up
9. Know common family and family business governance issues and understand how the design of these affects successful transfers and successions
