Biography

Jamil Ahmed joined Standard Chartered Bank in October 2023 with global responsibilities for Conduct and Control for the Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking (CCIB) business and geographic responsibilities for Europe and Americas.

Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Jamil was with HSBC where he held various global and regional roles in Internal Audit spanning different businesses, functions and geographies before taking on the role of Head, Financial Crime Compliance in Singapore, eventually becoming its Chief Compliance Officer. His role involved leading a diverse team of over 100 compliance professionals, encompassing areas such as Financial Crime Risk, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Crime Investigations, Fraud Risk, Sanctions and Compliance Assurance.

Jamil was a Steering Committee member of the AML/CFT Industry Partnership (ACIP), Singapore’s Public-Private Partnership and has co-chaired the ACIP Industry Working Group on Counter-Proliferation Financing. He was also a member of the Association of Banks in Singapore’s (ABS) Standing Committee on Fraud and frequently participated in national and international panel discussions, engaging with international regulators and Public-Private Partnerships.

Jamil has authored multiple editorials on diverse financial crime topics including trade-based money laundering, fraud and proliferation financing with publications in national and international press. He was recognised with an Editor's Award for Best RegTech practitioner by the A-Team Group in 2021.

Prior to HSBC, Jamil held positions of increasing levels of responsibility in Internal Audit at another global financial institution, specialising in market risk, credit risk and model risk. He has worked in various international locations including London and Hong Kong prior to moving to Singapore.

Jamil holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Information Technology, along with certificates in quantitative finance and sustainable finance.
