Michael Bok is Head of Trading, Asia at Schroders where he leads the regional trading team, steering strategy and execution across multiple asset classes to deliver best-in-class outcomes for clients. He plays a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s trading capabilities, embracing the latest technology and data-driven insights to ensure operational excellence and resilience. He is also a board member of Schroder Investment Management Singapore Limited.
Since joining Schroders in 2003, Michael has advanced through several roles, including Equities Trader, Asia, Head of Equity Trading, Asia before his current role as Head of Trading, Asia Pacific. He witnessed the evolution of trading operations, from traditional manual methods to state-of-the-art electronic solutions and advanced algorithms. His extensive experience navigating key market events—such as the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and the unprecedented challenges posed by Covid-19—underscores his adaptability and steadfast commitment to client and team well-being.
A recognized advocate for industry advancement, Michael has actively contributed to the development and enhancement of capital markets in the region. He engages regularly with exchanges and regulators, offering feedback to optimize market structure and uphold best practices. He serves on the MAS-CAD Panel of Experts on Securities Offences, providing expert opinion for MAS, CAD and State Courts to support Singapore’s efforts to maintain transparent and robust equity markets.
Michael’s dedication to mentorship and talent development is reflected in his strong belief in lifelong learning. He regularly mentors colleagues and external parties to foster growth and knowledge sharing within the financial community, exemplifying his belief in paying forward the guidance and generosity he has received throughout his career.
Michael began his trading career at OCBC Asset Management (now Lion Global Investors) before establishing the trading desk at Morley Fund Management (now Aviva Global Investors). His professional journey has equipped him with deep insights into market developments, the transformative power of technology, and the importance of cultivating diverse skillsets to lead through industry inflection points.
