Managing Director, Head of Multinationals, Greater China, HSBC

Biography

Mun Loong is Managing Director and Head of Multinationals, Greater China, Global Banking at HSBC. Currently based in HSBC’s Asia Pacific HQ in Hong Kong, he leads a team of coverage bankers that support the business and banking requirements of HSBC’s global multinational clients based in Greater China and is responsible for developing and driving strategies to grow the business in one of the bank’s biggest markets. Prior to taking on his current role in 2023, he was Head of Multinationals for Southeast Asia based in Singapore, a business that he has successfully led and grown. He is a member of various country banking governance, regional product, and business steering committees, at HSBC Hong Kong and Singapore.

In a career spanning over 28 years, he has worked in several countries across diverse functions. Before re-joining HSBC in 2015, he was at Bank of America from 2007-2015 where he held positions as Head of Corporate Banking Subsidiaries for ASEAN and in China, as well as Corporate Banking Head and country branch manager for Bank of America Indonesia. He was a member of the bank’s country executive committees in China and Indonesia. From 2005-2007, he was Corporate Banking Sector Head for Consumer Retail Healthcare and Media at HSBC China. He started his career at DBS Bank from 1996 -2005, in Corporate & Institutional Banking and Enterprise Banking in Singapore in coverage and structured trade finance, before taking on roles as Credit Head, Deputy Branch Manager and Corporate Banking team head at DBS China, in Shanghai. ‎

He has represented HSBC Singapore in industry initiatives and workgroups. He is a member of the IBF Corporate Banking Industry Workgroup since 2019, contributing to the Skills Future agenda and the development of professional certification and program accreditation frameworks, as well as a training ecosystem for the corporate banking sector. As part of the industry workgroup from HSBC, he has contributed to the development of Code of Best Practices in Commodity Financing and the Trade Finance Registry. Passionate about people development, he has provided coaching and mentorship internally to colleagues, as well as externally as part of the SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business Advisory Board Mentorship Programme.

Mun Loong graduated from University of Sheffield, UK, with a BA (2nd upper Honours) degree in Accounting and Financial Management. He obtained an MBA (Nanyang Fellows) from Nanyang Technological University, on a sponsorship from DBS Bank, and was awarded the Prof Lim Chong Yah Gold Medal as the top graduate in 2002. He has also completed the Asian Financial Leaders Programme in 2023, sponsored by HSBC.
